Mary Adelia McLeod (born September 27, 1938 in Birmingham , Alabama ) is an American Anglican bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States of America .

Life

McLeod studied history and Anglican theology at the University of Alabama and the School of Theology , University of the South at Sewanee . In 1980 she was ordained a priestess. The Episcopal Diocese of Vermont was the first diocese of the Episcopal Church to elect an Anglican bishop, Mary Adelia McLeod, in 1993. She was ordained bishop on November 1, 1993 in Burlington , Vermont by Edmond Lee Browning , Robert O. Miller and Barbara Clementine Harris . McLeod is married with five children.
