Mary LaRose

Mary LaRose Lederer (* around 1965 in Brooklyn ) is an American painter and jazz singer .

LaRose became familiar with jazz at an early age through her brother, who performed as a jazz pianist with Jack Wilkins . First she took part as a painter in exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn College. Influenced by the vocalese of Eddie Jefferson and Jon Hendricks , she then concentrated on jazz singing . She recorded with Mark Marino's quartet in 1989. In 1995 she released her debut album Cutting the Chord , which received good reviews in Down Beat , JazzIz and JazzTimes . At GM Recordings 1999 appeared Walking Woman , the more albums under his own name followed last Reincarnation (2013). Together with her husband, the saxophonist Jeff Lederer , she appears in the band Shakers n 'Bakers , which interprets Shaker songs using avant-garde jazz and has released three albums by 2018. She can also be heard on Jimmy Bosch's album Soneando Trombon .
