Mary Upton

Mary Upton (born May 30, 1946 in Kilrush , County Clare ) is an Irish politician of the Irish Labor Party and has sat since October 1999 in the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament .

Mary Upton attended Colasite Mhuire in Ennis and studied at University College, Galway and University College, Dublin .

When her brother, MP Pat Upton , died in February 1999, Mary Upton ran successfully in the by-elections to fill his vacant seat in Dáil Éireann. She was able to defend her mandate in the next regular elections in 2002 and again in 2007 . Before starting her political career, she worked as a lecturer .
