Kilrush city center

Kilrush ( Irish : Cill Rois ) is a town in County Clare , Ireland , with 2719 inhabitants (2016). It is the neighboring town of Kilkee and is at the mouth of the River Shannon . The ruins of a monastery from the early 6th century are located on the offshore island of Scattery Island .
In 2015 Kilrush won a gold medal from the Entente Florale Europe . In the pan-European horticultural industry, Kilrush represented the Republic of Ireland in the category for towns with less than 5000 inhabitants.
Marina
Kilrush Harbor, with a lock gate to the mouth of the Shannon, is home to the largest marina on the Irish west coast with 120 berths.
The Shannon Dolphin and Wildlife Foundation has an information center at the marina . The Shannon Estuary off Kilrush is the habitat of dolphins , who live there all year round.

- Vandeleur Walled Garden: Walled gardens at the former country house of the Vandeleur family
- Loop Head and Cliffs of Kilkee : Kilrush is a good starting point for excursions to Loop Head and the Cliffs of Kilkee, which can be considered an insider tip, as most tourists go to the famous Cliffs of Moher . The N67 meanders picturesquely along the coast towards Galway City . On the way lies the famous golf town of Lahinch , the Cliffs of Moher (via the R478) and the village of Doolin with ferry connections to the Aran Islands . In the other direction, the N67 takes a ferry across the River Shannon to Tarbert in County Kerry , saving a detour of approx. 140 km via Limerick City .
