Pat Upton

Pat Upton (born September 1, 1944 in Kilrush , County Clare , † February 22, 1999 in Dublin ) was an Irish politician of the Irish Labor Party .

Upton attended St Flannan's College in Ennis and studied at University College, Galway and University College, Dublin . At the latter he received his doctorate and became a doctor of veterinary medicine .

Before starting his political career, Upton was a lecturer at University College, Dublin . From 1989 until his election to the Dáil Éireann in 1992, he was a member of the Seanad Éireann , the upper house of the Irish Parliament . In the elections for the 28th Dáil Éireann, Upton was able to defend his mandate . In addition to his parliamentary activities, Upton was also a member of the Dublin County Council from 1991 to 1994 and a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 1994 to 1995 .

Within the Irish Labor Party, he was one of the greatest critics of the alliance with the Democratic Left .

On February 22, 1999, Upton died unexpectedly of a myocardial infarction at the age of 54 . At the time of his heart attack, he was at UCD Veterinary College , where he occasionally worked as a lecturer. Upton was immediately taken to Saint Vincent's Hospital , where he eventually died. In the October 1999 by-elections to fill his vacant seat in the Dáil, his sister and party colleague Mary Upton was elected.

Pat Upton was married with four children: three sons and a daughter.
