Marya Zaturenska

Marya Zaturenska (born September 12, 1902 in Kiev , † January 19, 1982 in Shelburne Falls ) was an American writer .

Life

Originally from Russia, Zaturenska moved to the USA in 1910, where she began studying at the University of Wisconsin-Madison . She received American citizenship in 1912 and married the poet Horace Gregory in 1925 .

Together with her husband, she edited various anthologies , including the 1946 work A history of American poetry, 1900-1940 . Zaturenska became famous for her volume of poetry Cold morning sky , published in 1937 , for which she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1938 .

In addition to numerous volumes of poetry such as Threshold and Hearth (1934) or The listening landscape (1941), she also wrote a biography in 1949 in which she described the life of Christina Georgina Rossetti . Her last work was the volume of poetry The hidden waterfall , published in 1974 .
