Maryan Street (born April 5, 1955 in New Plymouth ) is a New Zealand politician of the New Zealand Labor Party .

Life

Street grew up in New Plymouth and studied at Victoria University of Wellington . In 1984 she became a member of the New Zealand Labor Party. Street was a MP from September 17, 2005 to September 20, 2014. Street served as Secretary of Housing from October 31, 2007 to October 3, 2008, replacing Chris Carter, and from October 31, 2007 to October 3, 2008, she was Minister of Accident Insurance. From 1993 to 1995 she was Ruth Dyson's successor as chairwoman of the New Zealand Labor Party. Her successor in the party leadership was Michael Hirschfeld . She is married to Kathryn Street.
