Masaaki Suzuki ( Japanese 鈴木 正 昭 Suzuki Masaaki ; born April 2, 1947 in Kobe , Japan ) is a Japanese chemist and professor.

Life

Suzuki studied chemistry at Nagoya University and received his doctorate there in 1975 as an academic student of Y. Hirata . Until 1977 he conducted research in the Department of Chemistry at Harvard University with Nobel Prize winner Robert Burns Woodward . This was followed by a position as assistant professor at the University of Nagoya until 1983 with the later Nobel Prize winner Ryoji Noyori . He then became a professor there, before he was offered a chair at Gifu University , Japan, in 1993 . He worked there until 2007. Then he moved to the RIKEN Research Institute Rikagaku Kenkyūsho ( 理 化学 研究所 ), where he is currently Vice President in Kobe , Japan.

Masaaki Suzuki is married to Yoko Suzuki and has four children, daughters Kana and Akiko and sons Masatoshi and Yoshimasa.
