Masai Ujiri (* 1970 in Nigeria ) is the General Manager of the Toronto Raptors in the US National Basketball Association (NBA). He is the first general manager in American major league sport to be born in Africa .

Ujiri is the son of a hospital administrator. Before turning to basketball, he mostly played soccer . His role model was Hakeem Olajuwon , an NBA star born in Nigeria. He played college basketball at Bismarck State College , then moved to Montana State University Billings , but left that college after a semester. He then played basketball in Europe for six years before becoming an unpaid scout for Orlando Magic . The next season the Denver Nuggets offered him a paid scout position, which he accepted. He stayed there for four years and then moved to Toronto to the Raptors . In 2010 he returned to Denver and accepted the position of General Manager .

At the end of the 2012/13 season , he ended his work in Denver and took the same position in Toronto . At the end of that season, he was also named NBA Executive of the Year .
