NBA Executive of the Year Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Basketball Association's Executive of the Year Award has been given to the best general manager (GM) in the league since the 1972/73 NBA season . Unlike the other awards from the National Basketball Association , this award is not given directly by the NBA, but by the Sporting News . The Executive of the Year Award is still officially recognized by the NBA. The election is made by the GMs of the 30 NBA teams, the winner is the one with the most votes.

Since its inception, the award has been given to 33 different GMs. Jerry Colangelo , the first GM of the Phoenix Suns , was the only one to win the award four times. Bob Bass , Wayne Embry , Bob Ferry , Stan Kasten , Jerry Krause , Geoff Petrie , Jerry West , and Jerry Colangelo's son Bryan Colangelo each won the award twice. The only non- US winner was the Nigerian Masai Ujiri , who was with the Denver Nuggets at the time. The current winner is Jon Horst , GM of the Milwaukee Bucks .

Larry Bird was the only one to win the titles as Most Valuable Player , Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year.
