The Maschinenfabrik Froriep GmbH was a German machine tool manufacturers . The former family company had its factory in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt . The company built heavy machine tools that were used in industry.
history
The company was founded on June 1, 1867 by Karl Klingelhöffer (1822–1889) and Otto Froriep (1835–1883) under the name Klingelhöffer & Froriep in Rheydt. Before founding the company, Froriep managed the German machine tool factory in Chemnitz .
In 1876, Karl Klingelhöffer left the company as a partner. The company continues under the new name Otto Froriep . After Otto Froriep's early death, Paul Froriep (1863–1910), a son of the company's founder, took over management. In 1920 the company was renamed again to Maschinenfabrik Froriep GmbH . In 1943 and 1944, the machine factory was badly damaged in air raids. 11 employees lost their lives. In 1948, production can be resumed after a lengthy period of maintenance work on the plant. From 1955, the founder's great-grandson, Dr. jur. Henrik Froriep managed the family business for another 11 years. In 1966 the company was sold to Tube Investments Linited from London. Five years later sold Tube investment the factory in 1971 to the in constant competition with Maschinenfabrik GmbH Froriep standing Schiess AG in Dusseldorf .
In the following years, the largest production areas at the Mönchengladbach-Rheydt location were relocated to Düsseldorf, so that in the end only mechanical production and service at the Mönchengladbach-Rheydt location remained. In the 1980s, the production halls at the Mönchengladbach-Rheydt location were given up by Schiess AG .

Entrepreneur villa
In 1898, Paul Froriep commissioned the architect Robert Neuhaus to build a representative villa in Mönchengladbach-Rheydt. The entrepreneurial family lived in the villa until the 1940s. The villa is now a listed building and in 1989 it was included in the Mönchengladbach's list of historic monuments. The building has been used as a hotel and restaurant since 1949.
