After completing his engineering training, Froriep headed the German machine tool factory in Chemnitz . In 1867 Froriep moved his residence to Rheydt . With Karl Klingelhöffer he founded his first mechanical engineering company in 1867. After Karl Klingelhöffer left as a partner in 1876, Otto Froriep continued the company under the Otto Froriep company . After the founder's early death, his son Paul Froriep (1863–1910) took over the management of the family business. In the 1960s, the Froriep family sold what was now the company Maschinenfabrik Froriep GmbH to an investment company.

Otto Froriep was born with Melitta Franziska. Thierfelder married, both had 13 children.
