The Gustav Eirich machine factory was founded by Gustav Eirich in Hardheim , Baden-Württemberg in 1863 . Originating from a mill workshop, the company today offers machines, systems and services for process engineering, in particular for the processing of loose materials, slurries and sludge. The focus is on continuous and discontinuous processes for mixing , drying, pelletizing , granulating and fine grinding.

In addition to the headquarters in Hardheim with around 700 employees, the company has 10 international locations. Together with its 12 sister companies, Maschinenfabrik Gustav Eirich forms the Eirich Group with around 1,500 employees and a group turnover of up to 200 million euros. According to the company's own statements, the sister companies contribute around 90 million euros to group sales, the export share of production in Germany is between 85 and 95%, almost half (48% in 2011/12) of group sales are attributable to Asia.

history

History of the Hardheim headquarters

In 1863 Gustav Eirich founded his own business in Hardheim, the "Mechanische Werkstatt Gustav Eirich". Like his father Matthias Eirich, he had previously carried out mill repairs as a "mill doctor" in the surrounding valleys of Erfa and Tauber. Eirich's second workshop, built in 1869, had a connection to a flour, oil and saw mill to drive the machine tools. In 1883 Eirich finally acquired his own mill on the Erfa and also set up a sawmill (the former so-called middle mill was renovated in 2008 and is still the seat of the management). Its production now comprised water wheels and engine parts for mills and Göpelwerke , agricultural machines (including chopping and threshing machines, forage cutting machines, fruit presses and beet mills) as well as machines and accessories for sawmills.

In 1900 Eirich's sons Ludwig and Josef Eirich took over the management. In 1904 a power generation system was installed to electrically illuminate the workshop. From 1907 onwards, the Eirich brothers' power plant also supplied the citizens of Hardheim with electricity. (The company's own electricity production was discontinued in 1964, but Eirich is still the network operator of the Hardheim community.)

In the 1920s, the production and the sawmill were converted to electric motors and a test and demonstration department (the "tasting room", today the technical center at the company's headquarters) was set up.

During the Second World War and in the post-war years, the company was managed by Gustav Eirich Jr. and his cousin Willi Eirich, the founder's grandchildren. After the war, Eirich manufactured choppers and face plate mills in Hardheim, and a concrete plant was also operated at times. From the 1950s onwards, business activities focused on mixing. In 1968 Hubert Eirich and his cousins Paul and Walter Eirich joined the management in the fourth generation of the family. With the departure of Hubert and Paul Eirich at the end of 2013, the management made the complete transition to the fifth generation: Stephan Eirich and Ralf Rohmann have headed the company since 2014.

In 2011 the company's newly built logistics center opened in neighboring Külsheim. From 2011 to 2012, a new assembly hall with a representative reception area was built on the main Hardheim site.

In 2013 a company museum - the "Mixeum Eirich" - was opened in the old workshop and in part of the former assembly hall in Hardheim.

Product history from 1903

A visit to the Düsseldorf industrial and trade exhibition in 1902 brought the Eirich brothers into contact with the up-and-coming concrete industry and gave the impetus to expand their business activities in the field of mixing technology. The first ring trough mixer for fine-grain concrete was produced in 1903. In 1906 the patent for the Eirich planetary mixer was granted. The first major project in which Eirich planetary mixers were used was the first expansion of the Kaiser Wilhelm Canal (today the Kiel Canal ) , which began in 1907 .

With the countercurrent high-speed mixer introduced in 1924, the separation of mix transport (by the rotating container) and mixing (by the mixing tool) was introduced - a mixing technology on which Eirich mixers are largely based to this day. Further developments of the countercurrent high-speed mixer are the countercurrent intensive mixers with agitator of the so-called D-type series (from the 1960s) and the R-type series with inclined rotating container (from 1972). Large mixers for up to 8000 liters of mix were added from 1985. In 1986 the world's first vacuum mixer was introduced. Today machines with up to 12,000 liters of usable filling, throughputs of up to 1500 tons per hour and drive powers of up to 1 megawatt are manufactured.

The laboratory and small mixers introduced in 2005 with sequence automation and process data processing enable computer-aided documentation and control and thus also the complete reproducibility of mixing processes. The technology was acquired by numerous research institutes in the field of materials and building materials research, which use these mixers for their research and development work.
