The Masdascher Burgherrenweg is a hiking trail near Mastershausen in the Hunsrück . It is one of the so-called dream loops in the route system of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig by the local tourism organizers and leads around Mastershausen. It is 13.7 km long and was certified on May 31, 2009 with the premium hiking trail seal of the German Hiking Institute.

Characteristic

Deep stream valleys separate the two high points of the Celtic-Roman and medieval fortifications, the castle hill (castle head) and the castle ruins of Balduinseck . The Masdascher Burgherrenweg connects both on historical paths and existing hiking trails and includes the village of Mastershausen.

From the center of Mastershausen the path leads over the Mautzbachtal to the Dolsberg , down to the Dolsbach to the Wohnrother Bachtal , past the ruins of the Bucher Bauernmühle to the castle ruins of Balduinseck. Over the Todtenberg it goes to the Burgkopf and on to the Herzauer Hannes . The further course leads through the Sosberger Bachtal to the Göschelbach , to the Apollo pit and up to the Geierlay lookout point .

Attractions

Special sights of the Masdasch Burgherrenweg are the castle hill, the Balduinseck ruins, the remains of a mill in the Wohnrother Bachtal, pit entrances below Mastershausen and the Roman-style observation tower on the Galgenhöhe .
