Mashare

Mashare is a settlement and administrative seat of the constituency of the same name in the Kavango-East region in northeastern Namibia . It is located about 50 kilometers east of the regional capital Rundu on the Okavango , in the north of the constituency.

Mashare was one until early 1980 seat leprosarium . This was closed with the intensification of the Namibian liberation struggle . It was home to thousands of leprosy patients from Namibia, Angola and Botswana . To this day (as of 2018), Mashare is still home to most of the leprosy sufferers in the country who have come together here voluntarily as a community.
