Maskelyne is an impact crater on the front of the moon in the Mare Tranquillitatis plain , northwest of the Censorinus crater . The shape of the crater is irregular with a sharp edge, the interior is uneven with traces of landslides.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the English court astronomer Nevil Maskelyne .
