Changjiao Massacre
The Changjiao Massacre was a massacre committed by Imperial Japanese Army troops in Changjiao, Hunan , of Chinese civilians during World War II . At the time of the massacre, Shunroku Hata was the commander in chief of the China Expeditionary Army . From May 9-12, 1943, Japanese forces murdered thousands of civilians and raped thousands of women. Chinese sources put the death toll at 30,000.
