Pawłokoma massacre
The Pawłokoma massacre occurred in early March 1945 near the village of Pawłokoma (Ukrainian Павлокома ) in Poland in what is now the Subcarpathian Voivodeship .
Happenings
In Pawłokoma towards the end of the Second World War , on 2/3 March 1945, Ukrainians living there murdered by Polish partisans, including former members of the Polish Home Army under the leadership of Józef Biss. The residents were first driven to a church, where they were interrogated and then probably executed in a nearby cemetery. Depending on the estimate, there were 150 to 365 deaths.

The murders of the Ukrainians are related to the murders of Poles by nationalist Ukrainian partisans collaborating with the German occupation forces in the years 1942–1943, during the German occupation . The massacre, which can be seen as retaliation for the actions of the Ukrainians, was triggered by the abduction of 13 residents of Pawłokoma by the Ukrainian insurgent army .
Work-up
On May 13, 2006, the Presidents of Ukraine and Poland, Viktor Yushchenko and Lech Kaczyński , inaugurated a memorial for the killed Ukrainians in Pawłokoma. The names of the victims are engraved on one of the three mass graves.
