Massimiliano Neri
Massimiliano Neri (also: Negri) (* probably 1623 in Bonn ? † 1673 at the latest ) was an Italian organist and composer of the Baroque era.
Life
Massimiliano Neri came from a family of musicians who had their roots in Verona . As can be seen from his will, he was probably the illegitimate son of the Bonn court conductor Giacomo Negri (1592 – after 1646). Massimiliano Neri received a musical and humanistic education, at the expense of the educated and wealthy Venetian patrician Giacomo Soranzo. From 1644 to 1664 he was deputy organist at San Marco and Kapellmeister at the Ospedaletto in Venice. From 1664 he had a job as organist and Kapellmeister with the Elector of Cologne in his residence in Bonn.
There are three known collections of works. Among them the Emperor Ferdinand III. Dedicated polyphonic sonatas, canzons .... Op. 2. Both collections of instruments are of excellent quality and contain interesting examples of the trio sonata . The sonatas Op. 2/10 and Op. 2/14, however, are the first surviving examples of the genre of Concerto Grosso . Individual parts of Neri's works are available in Berlin and Wroclaw collections.
