Masticha , Mastiha or Mastika ( Bulgarian Мастика ; Greek Μαστίχα ; macedonian Мастика ) is a Ouzo and Rakı similar spirit , but mastic contains (gum of pistachio trees), with the taste-determining component anise is produced and mainly in Southeast Europe. The alcohol content of the drink is around 30 % by volume (in Bulgaria, however, by law at least 47 % by volume ), it is usually diluted with ice water or served strongly chilled and undiluted. Primarily figs , plums or plums are used as the basis for the distillation process .

Masticha from Chios is a protected designation of origin .
