Masurian song

The Masurian Song was written in 1855 by Friedrich Dewischeit as one of five Masurian songs. He dedicated it to his Corps Brothers of Masovia . “The Masurian Wanderlied ” became the national anthem of Masuria . The Reichsender Königsberg used the melody from 1930 as a pause sign. The Masurians in Gelsenkirchen still sing it today.

The lake floods
wildly, the swaying boat rocks the fisherman on it.
It rolls foam like snow
from the gruesome middle to the bank.
The waves flood wildly on the lakes of the Fatherland, how beautiful!
Oh carry me on mirrors to hills, Masovia's lakes!
Masovialand, my homeland,
live Masovia, my fatherland!
 
The grove roars wildly,
There the archer peeks the trail of wild animals .
He boldly penetrates,
walks through the woods, the fields, the corridor.
You floating clouds remember mine at the grove,
Oh lead me on the wings of the wind to my home.
The youth grove, the lakeside beach,
Masovia live, my fatherland!

Valley, hill and grove,
there the air blows so freely and so boldly.
I always
want to be there, where the fatherland's sons bloom.
There the clouds pull gray through fog, oh look!
There blue smiles on the lakes and heights of the sky.
Oh homeland, Masovia's beach,
Masovia live, my homeland!
