Matěj Václav Šteyer
Matěj Václav Šteyer (born February 13, 1630 in Prague ; † September 7, 1692 ibid) was a Czech Jesuit priest , preacher, educator, translator and religious writer.
Šteyer founded together with his mother Marie Šteyerová in 1669 the publishing house of St. Wenceslas ( Svatováclavské nakladatelství ) and published various counter-Reformation writings. His best-known work is the Bohemian Hymnbook (Kancionál český), first published in 1683, in which he included traditional Czech hymns. Furthermore, he wrote the Catholic Postilles (Postily katolické) and the Czech grammar Žáček (1667/68) in 1691; he was also involved in the translation of the St. Wenceslas Bible (Bible svatováclavské) based on the Vulgate into Czech.
