Mateiko is an elongated reef island in the reef rim of the Funafuti Atoll , Tuvalu .
geography
The island lies at a point in the atoll where the southern reef rim runs north. The island is only separated from Funafala in the south by a narrow channel . To the north a sandbank extends further into the area of the Southern Coral Heads and after about 800 m the island of Falefatu joins in the northeast.
