In the television program Mathematics to Touch , which is broadcast on BR-alpha , the mathematics professor Albrecht Beutelspacher explains everyday mathematical phenomena in a generally understandable manner within a quarter of an hour. The first season consists of 16 episodes, which were broadcast on Fridays at 10:45 p.m. from the first broadcast on February 22, 2008 and are also available on the BR-alpha website. From October 1, 2010 onwards, the twelve episodes of the second season were again broadcast on Fridays at 10:45 p.m. 12 new episodes of BR-alpha.

Sequence of a shipment

The program usually begins with the words "Mathematics helps us understand the world!". In the second season this is followed by "I don't know how you are, but sometimes you ask yourself ..."; this is followed by a question appropriate to the subject of the episode. Within the program, mathematical principles are often demonstrated using everyday props such as dice, lottery tickets, glasses and the like, and drawings and pictures are also occasionally displayed for illustration. The topics dealt with are mostly only touched on in a layman-friendly manner, which, however, corresponds to the aim of the program to arouse interest in mathematics instead of deterring them with complicated theoretical considerations.
