Mathias Ahrens

Mathias Ahrens (* 22. December 1963 in Hamburg ) is a German Hockey - coach .

From 2000 to 2008 he worked full-time as a coach for the Scottish national team and assistant coach for the British national team. His greatest achievement was in 2006 when the Scottish team qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. He resigned in November 2008 after his team lost 3 friendly matches to the Irish team. He started his career as a goalkeeper for the German U18 team. In the Bundesliga he played for Klipper THC and the club on the Alster . As a coach he looked after his two previous clubs, but also worked at Club Raffelberg in Duisburg.

He is married to Susan , b. Gilmour, one of the most successful Scottish hockey players.
