Mathias Kifmann

Mathias Kifmann (born January 22, 1970 in Saarbrücken ) is a German economist. He is professor of economics, in particular health economics and social security, at the University of Hamburg and a core member of the Hamburg Center for Health Economics .

Life

Mathias Kifmann passed his Abitur at the Hamburg Helene-Lange-Gymnasium in 1989. He studied economics at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the London School of Economics . During his studies he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . After graduating with a degree in economics in 1996, he became a research assistant and assistant at the University of Konstanz . There he received his doctorate in 2001 with the dissertation Insuring Premium Risk in Competitive Health Insurance Markets and in 2005 the habilitation for contributions to the financing of the pension and health system . He was awarded the Venia Legendi for economics. From 2006 to 2010 he held the chair for finance and social security at the University of Augsburg .

In his research Mathias Kifmann focuses on questions of health economics and social security. His research topics include a. the optimal design of health insurance contracts, the financing and design of social health insurance systems and the demand for long-term care insurance. Together with Friedrich Breyer and Peter doubt he is the author of textbooks Health Economics and Health Economics . He has published numerous articles in German and English language journals with peer review.

Mathias Kifmann is one of the founding members of the German Society for Health Economics .
