Mathiasberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mathiasberg is a 50 meter high mountain between Bötzow and Marwitz north of Berlin in the Oberhavel district in Brandenburg .

In 1941 Hermann Honnef set up a test field on the Mathiasberg for the use of wind energy . A total of five different wind power plants with seven different generators were built. The highest plant was Plant I, which had a blade diameter of nine meters and stood on a 36-meter-high steel lattice tower. In March 1945 the facility on Mathiasberg had to be shut down because of the advancing Red Army. After the end of the war, the wind power stations were blown up by the Soviet Army and the parts melted down. Today four concrete foundations are still preserved and an original set of rotors can be seen in the Berlin Museum for Transport and Technology .
