Wendel Raul Gonçalves Gomes (born May 25, 1984 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian soccer player .

Career

The defensive midfielder began his career with the Corinthians in São Paulo , with whom he won the Brazilian championship in 2005. In 2006 it was awarded to Fortaleza . Wendel returned to the Corinthians in 2007, but was awarded again to Ituano FC after 2 games . In summer 2007 he moved to LASK Linz in the Austrian Bundesliga. There he was able to score four goals in 24 games in the first season. In the 2008/09 season, the Brazilian suffered from a knee injury and was left without action. In summer 2009, LASK parted ways with Wendel. The Brazilian then took a career break due to the protracted and recurring knee injury. In the summer of 2010 he was signed by the Brazilian Série A club EC Santo André .

Wendel played from the U-15 to the U-20 for all national teams in Brazil. In 2001, Wendel was part of the Brazilian squad to win the Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-17 and was also a regular at the subsequent U-17 World Cup . In 2003 he finished 2nd at the Campeonato Sudamericano Sub-20 , but when he won the U-20 World Cup in 2003 , he was not in the squad.
