The Mathys Bank is a rocky mountain ridge around 750 m high in the East Antarctic Coatsland . In the Shackleton Range it rises 4 km southwest of Mount Etchells in the La Grange Nunatakkern .
The United States Navy took aerial photographs of this ridge in 1967. The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1972 after Nicholas Mathys (* 1942), who worked for the survey from 1967 to 1969 at Halley Station and from 1968 to 1969 in the Shackleton Range.
