Mount Etchells is a 900 m high mountain in the East Antarctic Coatsland . As one of the La Grange Nunatakkers , it looms west of Mount Beney in the northern part of the Shackleton Range .
Aerial photographs were taken in 1967 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys between 1968 and 1971. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the Nunatak on January 5, 1972 after William Alan Etchells (* 1928), mechanic and engineer of the British Antarctic Survey from 1962 to 1988, who worked in the Shackleton Range from 1968 to 1969.
