Matjaševci
Matjaševci (Hungarian Szentmátyás ) is a village and part of the municipality of Kuzma in Slovenia .
geography
The scattered settlement has around 250 inhabitants and is located in the upper valley of the Lukaj brook, in Roganova Graba and on the gentle mountain slopes up to the Austrian border. The individual groups of houses at heights up to 380 m have the field names Jaklov Breg and Pelcarjev Breg . The place has large forest areas on its boundary and occupies the northern area of the municipality of Kuzma. There used to be a small border crossing between Matjaševci and the neighboring town of Tauka in Burgenland . Today tourists and visitors to the three-country park Raab, Őrség, Goričko can move around here unhindered.
history
The village is mentioned for the first time in 1387 as Mathyasfalua , at that time it belonged to the Dobra manor , today's Neuhaus am Klausenbach in southern Burgenland. In 1499 the place name Mathyasowcz is documented. In a protocol of the Diocese of Győr for 1698 the place names Mattyásocz and Mattyasovcz are recorded.
In 1890 the village was officially known as Szentmátyás and had 340 inhabitants, 321 of them known as Slovenes, 18 as Germans and one as Hungarian. The place belonged to the Szentgotthárd District of Eisenburg County (today Vas County ).
The Trianon Treaty gave the village to the Kingdom of SHS . For the place officially named Matjašovci, the following data were determined in the census on January 31, 1921: 254 Slovenes, 98 Germans and 11 Hungarians; Of these 363 residents, 350 professed to be Catholic and 13 to Protestant faith.
The 1931 census found 342 inhabitants, in 1961 there were 300 and the following figures are known for 1971: 287 inhabitants, 63 houses, 65 households and 260 villagers who live exclusively on agricultural income.
