Matrah , ( Arabic مطرح, DMG Maṭraḥ ), population 150,420 (2003), is one of the largest places in Oman , to the west of the capital Muscat and part of the Muscat Capital Area . Before the discovery of oil, Matrah was Oman's trading center. It is still a trading center today and is home to the largest port in the country.

The most important sights are the Shiite mosque , two forts, the fish market and the corniche . The Souq of Matrah is the largest of Oman and offers the largest selection of Omani handicrafts. The Riyampark is a public park on the edge of the Matrahs - there is also the symbol of Matrah, an oversized white incense burner.

Matrah is also one of the Wilaya of Muscat Governorate . Other places in Wilaya Matrah include Ruwi and Qurum .
