Quriat (also Quriyat, Qurayat or Qurayyat) is a small town with about 21,000 inhabitants in the Sultanate of Oman .

Quriat lies on the Indian Ocean . Administratively, the small town is also a Wilaya of the Muscat Governorate . The administrative district has a size of 1536 km² and a population of 44,911 people.

The small town played a role in Portuguese colonial history . The city, also called Curiate or Kuriyat by the Portuguese , was conquered in 1507. After a revolt in 1522, the fortress conquered by the Portuguese was destroyed and rebuilt in 1607. In 1648 Nasir ibn Murschid recaptured the city for Oman. The city is located about 100 kilometers south of the capital, Muscat .

On June 27, 2018, the temperature in Quriat did not drop below 42.6 ° C in 24 hours. This is unique because the Indian Ocean and the night usually allow the air to cool down. This value thus set the minimum temperature record from 2012 from al-Khasab . During the day, the mercury rose to 49.8 ° C that day.
