This is a table with the regions / governorates ( mintaqa , Pl. Manātiq ) and districts ( Wilaya ) in Oman (population figures : 2003 census, source: Ministry of National Economy).

By a Wali ruled Wilayat are a city or town corresponding administrative units. The Welsh seats usually have a historical background and are not determined by the number of inhabitants. Their population figures only say something about the size of the city proper. The main Wilayat towns often have no more than a few thousand inhabitants. Also, there are usually places in the same Wilaya with far more inhabitants than the main center itself. In most cases, the population of a Wilaya refers to one or more oases with dozens of scattered villages and settlements.
