Barka ( Arabic بركاء, DMG Barkāʾ ) is a coastal city in the al-Bāṭina region , in northern Oman . It is about an hour's drive from the center of the capital, Muscat . The city is known nationwide for its large fish market, which is also increasingly visited by tourists. The fort in the center is also worth seeing. The Oman College of Science & Technology has also been located there since the 1990s .
