Al-Mazyuna ( Arabic المزيونة, DMG al-Mazyūna ; sometimes also al Mazuynah or al-Mazyouna ) is a village and an administrative district ( Wilaya ) in the governorate of Dhofar in southwestern Oman .

Al-Mazyuna used to be just a Niyaba (Arabic hamlet ). On March 6, 2006, it was elevated to Wilaya by Royal Decree No. 13/2006. Since 1999, the settlement has housed a free trade zone, which is primarily intended to stimulate trade with its southern neighbor, Yemen .

Geography / location / traffic connections

The free trade zone is about 4 km from the Yemeni border (international border crossing) and 14 km from the village of Shahn ( Yemen ).

Attractions

One of the main attractions of al-Mazyuna is the ruined city of Hanoun, which dates from pre-Islamic times. In addition, there are old inscriptions in the administrative district, the oasis of al-Shisr, wadis that reach into the heart of the Andhour desert wadis and traces of early human settlement. The Wadi Dauka reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage Site . The wadi is part of the old incense route and the najdi incense trees also grow there .

Demographics

The population of the administrative district of al-Mazyuna was shown in the population report of the Statistical Yearbook for the first time in 2007 and has grown annually by an average of 3.9% since 2006, with the CAGR 2006-2008 of the proportion of residents by 2.3% and the CAGR of the proportion of foreigners by 13 , 8% increase.
