The governorate ( Arabic محافظة, DMG muḥāfaẓa ) al-Buraimi ( Arabic محافظة البريمي, DMG Muḥāfaẓat al-Buraimī ) is a governorate (administrative region) in the northwest of the Sultanate of Oman . At the December 21, 2010 census, the area had a population of 72,917, a decrease from 76,838 for the December 7, 2003 census. The area is approximately 7,000 square kilometers.

Its capital is Buraimi . The government is further subdivided administratively into the three Wilayat Buraimi, Mahda and as-Sinaina .

Until October 2006, the area was part of the az-Zahira region .
