Matsuura Isao

Matsuura Isao ( Japanese 松浦 功 ; born April 24, 1923 in Tōkyō ; † December 28, 2002 ) was a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), member of the Sangiin and Minister of Justice from 1996 to 1997 .

Life

After studying at the Imperial University of Tokyo , Matsuura became a civil servant in the Ministry of the Interior, and then, after its dissolution, in the Interior Authority. In 1976 he was appointed head of the fire and disaster control agency. From 1976 to 1977 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior .

In 1980 he was elected to the Sangiin for the first time in the national constituency that included all of Japan. In the LDP he joined the Takeshita faction . In 1996 he became Minister of Justice in Hashimoto's 2nd cabinet .

In 1998 he retired from politics after three terms in Sangiin.
