The trio consists of the namesake of the band, the American Matt Boroff (vocals and guitar), the Austrian Little Konzett (drums) and the German Rolf Kersting (bass). Since 2004, the band has made a name for itself with German and Austrian music critics in particular, has won several music prizes and is an excellent live formation among journalists. The press likes to compare the band's atmospheric music with films by David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino .

Band history

Matt Boroff, originally from New Jersey , first made a name for himself as the guitarist of the American band Planet Dread in the 1990s . From 1997 he played extensively as a solo artist in New York clubs. In 2000 Boroff moved to Vorarlberg , Austria, shortly afterwards to found the band, initially just Matt Boroff, with drummer Little Konzett and bassist Markus Bodenseh. The trio caused a first media stir in 2004 with the release of the self-titled debut album "Matt Boroff". It was released on the LoEnd Recs label, operated by drummer Little Konzett. At the same time, Matt Boroff won the TonBandTest online band competition. The jury, consisting of well-known Austrian music journalists, described the music as "dirty, fresh, irritating, exciting" and made international comparisons: "If The Jesus Lizard had ever recorded a 'pop album' - it would probably have sounded that way."

In January 2005 Markus Bodenseh was replaced by the Stuttgart bassist Rolf Kersting. The band toured Europe and released their second album "Ticket To Nowhere" in 2006. It was released in cooperation with the Universal Music record company in Germany , Austria and Switzerland and is often classified under the desert rock category . Once again very much noticed by music critics, Matt Boroff's music was used in a TV commercial for the Internet provider AON. In the same year, the trio won the “Austrian Newcomer Video Award” for the music video created by Matt Boroff for the song No Meaning . The band played extensive tours from Great Britain to North Africa.

The third album "Elevator Ride" was released in March 2008. The band called themselves Matt Boroff & The Mirrors from now on to emphasize the relevance of the rhythm section for the sound of the trio. “Elevator Ride” was also received euphorically by the critics. The Austrian daily Der Standard spoke of “a kind of rockabilly - shot by the wolf of punk , grunge and desert rock. Old, but new. ”The German Musikexpress wrote:“ Elevator Ride is a painfully beautiful bath in shards and splinters by Tom Waits , Nick Cave and the Pixies , which is best when the mood turns blue-gray. ”The media attention led meanwhile, that five songs from "Elevator Ride" are used in the 2009 Hollywood film Little Fish, Strange Pond .
