In the following season 1994/95 he did not get beyond this place. Nevertheless, he started as a member of the US Ski Team at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay . After a good 34th place for Kussinen on the normal hill, he jumped from the large hill to 52nd place. Even in the 1995/96 season he could not improve. After another unsuccessful season in 1996/97 , in which he was 98th overall with 93 points, Kussinen ended his active ski jumping career.
