Matteo Carnalivari: Palazzo Abatellis, patio

Carnilivari came from Noto , but his buildings can only be found in the Palermo region . His style unites the Catalan Gothic with Arabic and Norman elements, which he transferred in a separate direction through the achievements of the Renaissance. He is considered the most important master builder in Palermo in the last third of the 15th century.

From him come the Palazzo Abatellis (1487–1493), the Palazzo Aiutamicristo (1490–1495) with a Catalan patio (which, however, has undergone major changes over time) and the church of Santa Maria della Catena (around 1502).

In Misilmeri , in 1487, he led the renovation of the Castello dell 'Emiro into a habitable castle after its property had passed to the Aiutamicristo family from Siena. He also converted the Castello La Grua Talamanca in Carini into a residential palace.

In all of his buildings, Carnilivari preferred the local gray limestone, the Pietra di Billiemi, as the building material .
