Matter Most is a free web-based instant messaging - service . Matter Most, allows for chat with individuals as well as group chats, which are organized into "channels". Mattermost works in a similar way to the market-leading proprietary software Microsoft Teams and Slack .
Mattermost has clients for various desktop and mobile systems. It can also be used with a web client (any web browser).

It is possible for users to install Mattermost on their own server, which offers considerable advantages in terms of data security compared to communication via external servers.

The Mattermost software is offered in different versions, on the one hand a free "Team Edition" under MIT license and a chargeable "Enterprise Edition". The source code of Mattermost is under the GNU AGPL license v.3.0.

Mattermost supports transport encryption with TLS, and the automatic generation of Let's Encrypt certificates is also possible. However, end-to-end encryption is not supported.
