Matthew Parris (* 7. August 1949 ) is a former British politician of the Conservative Party , which today as author and journalist operates.

Life

Parris grew up in South Africa and attended Waterford Kamhlaba during his school days . He then studied in England Law at the University of Cambridge and then international relations at Yale University . After graduating, he worked for two years in the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office ; But then he decided on a political career and became involved as a politician in the Conservative Party . From May 3, 1979 to May 8, 1986 Parris was the successor of James Scott-Hopkins MP in the House of Commons for West Derbyshire . Parris' successor as MP was Patrick McLoughlin . After his parliamentary term, Parris worked as a television presenter for the British television program Weekend World on ITV ; he took over the show in 1986 as the successor to television journalist Brian Walden . Parris moderated the show until 1988. He then worked as a journalist on BBC Radio 4 for the documentary Great Lives . He also appeared on the show Have I Got News For You and hosted the show After Dark .

Parris has written many books as an author over the years. among others A Castle in Spain , Mission Accomplished !: A Treasury of the Things Politicians Wish They Hadn't Said Matthew Parris and Chance Witness: An Outsider's Life in Politics .

In August 2006 Parris entered into a "civil partnership" with the British journalist Julian Glover . Parris lives with his family temporarily in Spain and in London, where they each have private apartments.
