Matthew Porterfield

Matthew "Matt" Porterfield (born October 7, 1977 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American director , screenwriter and actor .

life and work

Porterfield first studied film studies at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University , but ended the course prematurely. He then worked as a kindergarten teacher for several years before returning to Baltimore. 2006 saw his debut film Hamilton , shot in 16 mm , for which Porterfield was responsible for the script, direction and editing. His second film Putty Hill was released in 2010. His film I Used to Be Darker , released in 2013, was shown in the forum of the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival . Jeremy Saulnier , who later switched to directing himself, took over the camera for all three films .

Porterfield teaches screenwriting and film production in the Film and Media Studies Program at Johns Hopkins University .
