Matthew Santos (born December 28, 1982 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is an American rock and folk singer and songwriter . He became internationally known largely through his collaboration with Lupe Fiasco , especially on his single "Superstar". Santos is currently under contract with Fiasco 's 1st & 15th Entertainment label .

Santo's father is of Spanish- Philippine descent, Santo's mother is Scandinavian . He has a younger sister and an older brother who is himself a musician in the band "Two Wurds". Santos started playing the piano at the age of six and learned to play the guitar at fifteen. He also discovered an interest in painting and graphic design . Until 2001 he attended Southwest High School, then Columbia College Chicago.

In November 2007, Santos released the live album "Matters of the Bittersweet" on the Candy-Rat Records label. He founded the Santos Music Company in January 2008 .
