Matthew Stewart, 2nd Earl of Lennox

Matthew Stewart, 2nd Earl of Lennox (* around 1470; † September 9, 1513 at the Battle of Flodden Field ) was a Scottish nobleman from the Stewart family .

Matthew was a son of John Stewart, 1st Earl of Lennox and his wife Margaret Montgomerie. He followed his father in 1494 as 2nd Earl of Lennox . He fell at the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513 .

The earl was married twice. First marriage to Margaret Lyle, daughter of Robert Lyle, 2nd Lord Lyle . From this marriage a daughter was born. His second wife was Elizabeth († 1531), daughter of James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton and his wife, the Scottish Princess Mary Stewart . The marriage to the granddaughter of King Jacob II brought his son closer to the Scottish throne. With Elizabeth he had the following children:
