In 1987 Holzmann began to study singing with various private teachers while he was still doing community service, but this did not bring him the desired success and in 1995, as an autodidact, he started his first engagement as choir bass 2 (deepest voice) at the city theaters of Krefeld and Mönchengladbach brought. In 2007 he was also engaged as an opera choir singer at the Bayreuth Festival . Also in that year he began his work as a speaker, which would become his most important activity.

As a composer, he contributed the film music to some TV documentaries on ARD and ZDF in 2010, while he continued to work on his other professional activities besides his opera engagement.

Although still a member of the Frankfurt Opera, Matthias Ernst Holzmann has been exclusively self-employed since 2014, primarily as a speaker and here primarily as an audio book speaker with numerous publications.
