Matthias F. Mangold (born May 5, 1962 in Kitzingen ) is a German culinary journalist, cookbook author, wine tester and operator of a cooking and wine school.

Life

Mangold grew up in Franconia and near Stuttgart. California and Munich were further stops before he moved to the Palatinate in 2003, where he still lives today. He is married with a son and two stepchildren.

After graduating from high school, he lived in the USA for more than two years and worked as a waiter, then a wine waiter in the Californian-French restaurant "Piret's". After completing his master's degree in philosophy and history in Stuttgart, he began earning his living as a freelance journalist in the fields of music and gastronomy in 1991. He was a regular author for Sonntag Aktuell , Musikexpress , Badische Zeitung , Frankfurter Rundschau Magazin and various city magazines, but also published in Focus , Rolling Stone and the Stuttgarter Zeitung .

From 1996 to 1998 Mangold headed the press department of the record company Intercord and then moved to Munich to work for BMG Ariola Munich , initially as head of promotion, before building up BMG's internet activities in 1999 and creating the first extranet for a record company worldwide.

This was followed by a year and a half at the Munich agency “konzepthaus”, where he was responsible for the content of target group-oriented publications such as Tchibo Magazine, MAN People and DIE ZEIT Abo Extra.

Mangold has been running his own company "genusstur" in Venningen (Palatinate) since 2003, where he offers wine seminars, cooking courses and wine tours. He has further expanded his journalistic writing activities. Cookery and wine books have been published since 2005. His “Heimatverlag” as an author is Gräfe und Unzer, but he also wrote books for Kosmos Verlag, Haedecke and currently for Stiftung Warentest. Some of his books have been translated into several languages.

From 2006 on he tasted the wines of the Palatinate for the Gault & Millau Wine Guide, and from 2012 in a responsible position. In 2017 he moved to the newly created Vinum Wine Guide in the same position, of which he has been editor-in-chief since 2019. He also writes for Vinum Magazin and the Pirmasenser Zeitung . He is also a gastro critic for the Meiningen restaurant guide Pfalz

Mangold has been a member of the jury in the ZDF cooking show Stadt, Land, Lecker since 2017 .
