City, Country, Delicious is a German chef - television program that the ZDF is broadcasted (repetitions on ZDFneo ). The basic idea is to strengthen and promote regional cuisine.

concept

In each episode, a regional chef competes against a television chef. He travels to the place where his counterparty's restaurant is located. There he is served a regional specialty prepared by him , which he tastes and whose ingredients and method of preparation he tries to analyze as comprehensively as possible with the help of his sense of taste and his professional experience. A recipe he will not receive. Both cooks then have three hours to prepare the dish (again or for the first time). The TV chef can also consciously decide on a new culinary interpretation or further development. In this point, the concept differs from that of the cooking show Kitchen Impossible , which has been broadcast on VOX since 2014 , which is otherwise similar in approach.

The regional chef works in his restaurant kitchen , the television chef in a food truck parked not far from the restaurant , which has a fully equipped kitchen. The TV chef will also find all the necessary ingredients in the vehicle, as well as a few more that are not needed for the original recipe as an additional challenge.

After the three hours have elapsed, a jury will be served the food prepared by the two chefs and arranged on plates. Unlike the audience, the judges don't know who made which plate. Color coding is used to distinguish them (blue plate, red plate). The jury tastes the dishes, discusses them and then decides who has won the competition. For this purpose, a point system has been used since the second season, in which a maximum of 15 points can be awarded (previously there was a simple majority decision). The judges initially rated the dishes in the categories optics (maximum of five points), taste (maximum of seven points) and tradition (maximum of three points), with this weighting not being used in one sequence, so that up to five points are allocated in each category could. Since the third season, only the categories optics (maximum five points) and taste (maximum ten points) have been rated.

The two chefs then find out the result by opening envelopes with the judges' scoring cards and adding up the scores independently. How which juror voted remains open.

Moderation, cooks, jurors and locations

The first episodes were moderated by the actress Elena Uhlig . Since the beginning of the second season, there is no presenter, instead an off-speaker leads through the show . This task will be taken over by Robert Steudtner.

Johann Lafer and Nelson Müller first took part as prominent chefs . Alexander Herrmann also appeared in the second season . In the third and fourth seasons, Christian Lohse and Maria Groß worked alongside Herrmann and Müller , Lafer no longer.

The jury, which always consisted of three, consisted of local jurors in the first season, who chose a winner by majority decision. From the second season onwards, a points system and permanent jury members were used. These were the gastronomy journalist Matthias F. Mangold and the journalist, TV cook and food blogger Felicitas Then , each supported by a local juror (in one episode, Mangold was represented by the author and restaurant critic Carsten Henn ). In the third and fourth season, the jury consisted of Henn, Mangold, Then and the journalist and cookbook author Stefanie Hiekmann , who each appeared together with one or two local jurors in alternating cast.

During the fourth season, from May 6 to 10, 2019, five episodes were shown in which Alexander Herrmann competed against a team made up of five regional chefs from different Palatinate locations under the motto City, Country, Delicious a countrywoman and a butcher. The jury consisted of Matthias F. Mangold, the regular juror from the Palatinate, from the Palatinate food blogger Kerstin Getto and the Landau pastor Axel Brecht, who had already appeared as a guest juror in the second season of an episode filmed in Birkenhördt .

Production and broadcast

After the first two seasons were shot exclusively in locations in Germany , the TV chefs also traveled to (mostly German-speaking) regional chefs in Mallorca / Spain , South Tyrol / Italy and Austria in the third and fourth seasons .

Most episodes were first broadcast on Saturday afternoons on ZDF. The five episodes of the Stadt, Land, Lecker special from the Palatinate , which were shown between Monday and Friday on the slot for Die Küchenschlacht , are an exception .

The first season, which consists of five episodes, was broadcast from May 7 to June 18, 2016, the second season (eight episodes) from July 29 to September 23, 2017, and the third season (ten episodes) from September 12, 2016 May to October 27, 2018 and the fourth season (15 episodes) from January 19 to May 18, 2019.
