Matthias Freude (born October 3, 1952 in Ebersbach ) is a German biologist and honorary professor. From 2015 to April 2018 he was President of the Brandenburg State Office for Rural Development, Agriculture and Land Reorganization.

Life

Matthias Freude studied zoology , behavioral biology and ecology in Leipzig and Berlin , where he received his doctorate on bioacoustics and ecology of the chaffinch .

Together with Michael Succow, he co-founded the GDR National Park Program, which formed the basis for safeguarding five national parks, six biosphere reserves and three nature parks in the former GDR , on which the Brandenburg concept of large protected areas was built from 1990. From 1992 he set up the State Institute for Large Protected Areas, the management of which was transferred to him in the same year. From 1995 to 2014 he was President of the Brandenburg State Environment Agency . In 1996, Freude was made an honorary professor. He represents the Department of Landscape Management and Nature Conservation at the University of Applied Sciences Eberswalde the tray behavioral biology .

In addition to his work in Brandenburg, he designed, among other things, in cooperation with the authorities and other German nature conservation experts, after 1990 protection programs for Georgia and Mongolia , published numerous publications on zoological and nature conservation topics and made several television films about nature conservation work in Russia.

Joy is the father of two daughters and lives in Berlin.
